Simpson Earns Star Academy Achievement Award

The Star Academy Achievement Award was presented to John T. Simpson Alternative Education Center of Easley, S.C., at the Star Academy Symposium in Columbia on October 4, 2008.

Simpson Assistant Director Reggia Stapleton accepted the award on behalf of the school’s Star Academy Program. The Star Academy is for accelerated learning and dropout prevention.

The Star Academy Achievement Award goes to the school with the highest percentage of students completing the program and advancing to the 10th grade. Ninety-one percent of the eighth-grade students who started the Star Academy Program at Simpson in August 2007 were able to begin the 10th grade in August 2008. In the previous year, when the program was at Gettys Middle School, 90 percent of students advanced to 10th grade, and in the first year of the Star Academy Program, 73 percent of students advanced to 10th grade.

The students and teachers in the Star Academy at Simpson worked as a team to achieve outstanding results and thereby earned special recognition for their success.
